The camera body
The task of the camera body is: - to keep the lens and film in place - to allow focusing, i.e. to change the distance between lens and film - to keep out all light not coming from the lens.
In consists of three boxes that can be drawn one inside the other. Three boxes are needed, as the camera uses long focal lengths and a very large format, and requires a long extension for closeups such as portraits.
The boxes are painted black on the inside and are provided with baffles that keep the light from entering between the boxes.
