The shutter

The lens plate carries the lens and the shutter. You may also use a hat or a black lid, but is will be harder to determine the time of exposure if you do. The shutter is a piece of cardboard, painted black, that slides in its own track behind the lens. To begin the exposure the piece of cardboard is raised, to close the shutter it is released and falls to the bottom of the track.
